The daughter of the legendary Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley (son of the late Bob Marley) is now a budding model. She was featured in the latest issue of Teen Vogue looking radiant, and JUST like her mother.

She's a beautiful girl and I have no doubt she'll book plenty of modeling jobs. The real question is: Will she sing? In an April 2011 interview with Teen Vogue, the 7-grader stated, "People tell me I have to follow in the footsteps of my mom and grandfather, but it's a lot of pressure—I can't really slip up and mess up the name."

As much as we are all DYING for her mother to come back out on the music scene and blow some of these amatuers out of the water, I think we can settle for seeing her mini-me in the glossy pages for a while. Good luck, pretty girl!

I have to say, packing for Las Vegas was harder than I thought, what with my luggage going MISSING. It either a. got thrown in my end of the year cleaning, which is impossible, or b. my parents sent it off to the donation bin to Haiti. Where ever it is, I hope it has a great new home.

Not.

I had to purchase luggage (yes, “had” to) & subsequently ended up getting a few other items…ahhem. Don’t judge me! With my schedule, I hardly ever travel so I decided to treat myself to some early Christmas presents. A dress or two, a lipgloss or two, a shirt or two, yada yada. Shutup! I have 2 jobs/internships, babysitting, school.

I deserve eettt!

Meanwhile, those bigot old witches at my job *waves* had the audacity to sit in front of my face and whisper “oh yeah, bullshit, she’s not going to Vegas.” Hey LADY! Get your life. I’m going where ever you’re not, ‘cause I’m young, single, childless & damned hot.

GOD I hope her son brings home a Black girl! OHH! That would be the WORLD. Bahaha.

Ghost Whisperer

NO WONDER Jennifer Love Hewitt is always walking around in those ridiculous outfits on Ghost Whisperer. In the first season, the wardrobe stylist for the show always seemed to keep a vintage theme going (her character owns an antique shop). It was pretty eerie though, petticoats, bloomers & a lot of sheer draping was involved not to mention the overly done hair & makeup.

After the death & “resurrection” of her husband in the more recent season, she seemed to have either a. gotten a new stylist or b. came to her senses.

The thing about J. Love is that she is a petite girl and the wardrobe & overdone hair became exceedingly overwhelming on her tiny frame.

My sister finally explained to me what all the draping was about. Jennifer Love Hewitt has a FAT ASS!

Hahahaha, I know! That’s what I said, but if you notice, she didn’t have the top to match the bottom, so in the more recent seasons, you will notice more cleavage.

And yes, this what I do with my life, come home after a long day and analyze the wardrobe on Ghost Whisperer.

She should show that thing off though. Get it girl!

I am growing a small obsession with shoes at the moment..no wait I’ve always had this problem, nevermind. Clearly, this Nutella Mocha Macchiato has me WIRED and forgetting myself at the moment. These are superb, especially with the detailed cut on the metallic inserts.

I wish I could wear these Levi designs to work without the busybodies asking me who, what, when, where, why & how. Ugh. I wonder if they exhaust themselves with their incessant whining, ‘cause Lord knows they exhaust me.

I’m in the local Starbucks near the office, ridding myself of the negative energies and watching the wind blow as I suck down my second large cup of coffee and blog. This is absolutely the most relaxed I have been in a while. NEW LUNCH SPOT! Woot.

Now time for some fashion! These Kobi Levi creations, the designer for Lady Gaga’s shoes, are beyond my mental capacity right now. I actually needed to e-mail the link to myself just to ingest each piece carefully and slowly. 36-year-old shoes designer really knows how to translate his visions to hard copies beautifully. And who says fashion isn’t art?? HMPH!

Couture Fashion Week 2011 - Romero Bryan

Okay, all of the running around NYC, dragging my 19-yr-old, bright eyed niece with me to the shows (and the backlash I received for it) was well worth it because we had the honor & privilege to meet London designer Romero Bryan. He closed the show with a phenomenal collection. Can I just say, in the words of my favorite stylist Rachel Zoe, IT WAS EVERYTHING.

EVERYTHING & more.

Amidst all of the post-show chaos, I went up to talk to him and this is exactly what came out of my little mouth AND I QUOTE “I….how did you…where did this…? I can’t.” After the model standing next to him stopped gawking at me as I blubbered on, he kindly gave me his contact information so that I could interview him when I came back down to the planet Earth.

Bryan closed Couture Fashion Week with a line that consisted of an array of some of his favorite pieces. He used sparkling Winter Whites and bold textured Blacks with cutout details as he interestingly displayed the female body.

One detail that stood out for me was the use of the fair skinned models in darker colors and vice versa. With all of the controversy regarding minority models, or the lack thereof, at American fashion shows year in and year out it was refreshing to see an artist use his canvases and properly execute his vision so beautifully.

In 2001, at the ripe age of 18, Romero found himself being interviewed after singer Samantha Mumba made the front pages wearing one of his sexy pieces at the Brit Awards. The rest is history, as they say. Best known for his reconstructed denim, Romero put himself through his studies at the London College of Fashion.

Over the years, Mr. Bryan has dressed plenty of A-List stars including Cameron Diaz, Victoria Beckham, Tweet, Destiny's Child, Mariah Carey and Usher just to name just a few. He has also been featured in Vogue, Tatler, Fashion TV as well as being named on the Royal Bank of Scotland's “Rich List 2020” prediction by Philip Beresford.

Mr. Bryan, thank you for being above and beyond at such a young age. You are an inspiration and we can’t wait to see more of your work.

Everyone has been waiting for this line to drop, especially me, considering Dear Boyfriend has a little employee discount. (holds up lighter) I honestly don’t know if there will be anymore pieces at the store when I go on Friday. I heard about folks actually buying the L & XL sizes from the Missoni kids section! VULTURES!

You loons crashed the Target site today btw…..good grief.

Listen, I am literally in the state of mind to just call him and have him yolk a few things off the rack for me. This is one of the designers that Target has has worked with since Vera Wang in my opinion. I am already DEAD over this.

In regards to the 400-piece collection, the Target website reads:

For me, thing that is intriguing about this line is that it does not just consist of women’s and children’s clothing, but also home furnishings such as decorative frames, glassware, laptop cases and even a bicycle!

I honestly love it when the weather changes only so that I can change my wardrobe around. I have always loved Missoni but spend so much money on books and campus parking that it has been impossible to shop for it. This is a DREAM for College Barbie right now, hooooomg.

Film Fashion Envy: Heavenly Creatures

Oh my. Yesterday, an earthquake hit the East Coast, including New Jersey. It was small, I was two shakes away from needing new panties and I decided a bottle of wine and a movie or two would calm me down.

My girlfriend actually had a movie I've been dying to see, Heavenly Creatures. Its a true story of two girls in 1954 (New Zealand) who have this crazy relationship and end up committing murder at the ages of 13 & 14. Kate Winslet and ____ play Juliet and Pauline, respectively.

As disturbed and as the entire story was, I couldn't help but look at the wardrobe. I don't know who did the styling but omg, the pieces almost overwhelmed the entire film.

Should I change my blog name? I mean…to www.oldladywholivesinherShoes.com ? because…right now all I see is a wrinkle on my face, a lounging cat and an apartment full of shoes.

So here I sit, a steam facial & brown sugar-lemon scrub later, with a Clean & Clear cleansing mask on my T-zone and a Biore strip on my nose, trying to factor in Botox™ into my budget..Is that wrong at 22-years of age, to have LaMer on my dresser> I mean, this the whole point on all of these things right? They’re all supposed to by age defying and “fight the aging process” but what the hell is in them? Bird poop? Magical potions? I’m almost afraid to look at the ingredients…I think I’m freaking out a little because I’m someone’s great-aunt now. FREAKY.

Besides trying to make myself look as young as a 5-week old baby (i.e. Aliyah, my great-niece photo'd below), I have a few projects in the works.

I have to get back to my scheme for world domination. Toodles.

On This Day - Marilyn Monroe found dead

Yes, nerd girl over here was watching Ancient Aliens last night on the History Channel, therefore compelling me to waste valuable time this morning on their website whilst at the office.

On this day in history (or "herstory" for you feminists) in 1962 the lovely Marilyn Monroe was found dead from an apparent overdose. Theories point to a murder plot, involving an affair with the late President JFK, and his brother Robert Kennedy and the Secret Service having something to do with her death but nothing has ever been proved. Little did she know how much of an influence she would have on fashion and creating the image of American Beauty and costume ideas for future little drag queens everywhere.

That hair, those eyes and her voluptuous figure have been coveted and paid for in Hollywood 1000 times over. Nevertheless, let's give Marilyn credit for proving that curves are sexy and never being afraid to show it.

Okay, I never dislike anything Marc puts out so it was no suprise to me that I want every single solitary piece in this collection. I would wear them all at once, like in that Friends episode when Joey puts on everything Chandler owns.

The collection mainly comprises of clean lines, the traditional reds and navys with delicious summer colors like violet slipped in here and there. I almost need an oxygen mask to express my excitement about this collection; its, to me, transferable from Summer into Fall, especially with the capes. You know mama loves a cape!!

The red jumpsuit (on http://www.style.com/) is one my favorite's just because it reminded me of one my aunt used to have one in the '70s. . I will always love that pic of her. Note to self: I have to find that photo.

Natural Hair Woes

Being and becoming natural has been one of the most challenging things I've done to date. So far so good, I've been retaining growth, keeping it simple and just letting nature do its thing. I see a lot of girls trying different things like taking pills and special supplements but I'm not trying to ride that spend-more-money train. My regimen is as plain as possible:

Shampoo or co-wash weekly;
Deep condition;
Finger detangle with Care Free Curl (tm) and unrefined shea butter;
And braid or two strand twist.

But, my issue is with the shea butter. I already don't want to spend forever on my hair but to have to sit there and rub in the damned shea butter in my palms to melt it is just one extra step I am too exhausted to do. I don't want my hair to suffer because I'm lazy! So thanks to a few videos on Youtube, I finally found the solution:

soften shea butter in microwave for about 20 seconds add a little bit of your favorite oils (I used Vitamin E and Grape Seed oils) in a bowl;
use an electric mixer to blend all together until the shea butter mixture becomes almost cream-like in texture.

Now I can use it freely on both my hair and skin without feeling like I'm scraping away like a cavewoman. Problem solved. College Barbie = winning.

Feeling "Carried" Away

I've had a nutty week; deaths and births and all kinds of non-sense but I definitely found the time to treat myself because crying all day is not helping me none. I visited a cute consignment shop in town the other day and found this cute but completely impractical cigar box purse; totally something Carrie would have worn in her early days on S&TC!!

Very happy with my purchase, I just don't think wearing it tonight into the city would be a great idea considering the amount of alcohol I will be consuming, especially after the week I had.

If you watch VH1's Basketball Wives, then you know that besides the drama and those damned maxi dresses they're always rocking, there is another fan fave: their earrings. In every episode, viewers catch a glimpse of these huge hoop earrings with little details just as charms or tassels. Well, if you go to Dulce Boutique in Miami, owned by Evelyn Lozada you can find these earrings made by POParazzi. Prices start at $70 and everyone is sure to notice!

I personally am not fond of wearing them on a daily basis like they seem to do on the show but I could most definitely wear them out once in a while.

John Galliano anti-Semitic??

Fashion designer John Galliano went on trial in Paris earlier this week, entering the 17th Chamber of the Paris Correctional Court dressed (sort of) conservatively, to defend himself against allegations of him shouting anti-Semitic slurs at a couple dining at a Paris a café. He testified that he was taking "a lethal mix" of sleeping pills and alcohol and claims that he cannot recall making the alleged abusive comments.

Prosecutors screened the now-infamous 45-second clip of him shouting "I love Hitler" for the court. "Your mother, your forefathers would be f---ing gassed and f---ing dead." Christian Dior condemned his "deeply offensive statements and conduct" and he was subsequently fired. Galliano apologized after the video was released and is not being tried for this separate incident since charges aren’t being filed.

His testimony claims that he suffered from an increasing workload with no time to mourn after the 2007 death of his partner at Dior, designer Steven Robinson. "With his death, I found I had no protection," Galliano said. Asked to explain his "lack of memory," he said: "I have an addiction. I am currently undergoing treatment."

French law prohibits the incitement of racial discrimination, hatred or violence based on a person's origin or their membership -- or nonmembership -- in an ethic, national, racial or religious group so, he could face up to $33,000 in fines/6 months in prison.

"I only have myself to blame and I know that I must face up to my own failures and that I must work hard to gain people's understanding and compassion," Galliano said in a statement. "Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society."

This is CRAZY to me; Galliano is doing what everyone else is doing and that’s blaming drugs and everything else on his ridiculous ass rant instead just owning up to it. Under the influence makes you say what you mean even MORE so. I’m sure Dior will find someone else to run their house.

Yes, I attempted to watch the Finals this year, and watch LeBron embarrass himself. Good grief. I heard its been a hard year for him though, what with his mother AND his girlfriend getting the ^businessfrom other NBA players. OWWWWW I think him, Bosh and Wade made too much fuss over themselves after the trade and it blew up in their faces. Such a shame.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m an NFL fan at heart but I can watch them “pass the rock” with a little bit of knowledge lol. I know things. I can yell FOUL at the screen it be 75% appropriate! I watch Basketball Wives! (LOL)

Saturday was the 80s prom at one of the local bars in town so of course, me being me, I had an outfit already. That dress I got from the Salvation Army a few summers ago on a trip finally came in handy.

Chrissy & Kate joined me in our flashback to the 80s! (their Little sister looked at me like I straight up crazy when I walked in though lmao…)

Of course we took our classic “prom photo".” You know the one where you hold your breath, but your hand on your hip & smile big? I wonder what people are going to think in 100 years when they find these ridiculous artifacts of my generation. iPods, photos of funny poses, Croqs (sp?)…

Violent Lips

While I was online searching for ridiculous things to purchase, I stumbled across a huge wish list item. IDGAF what anyone says, I'm getting this!!

Violent Lips are temporary lip tattoos that you apply with a wet sponge or paper towel, (you know, the same way you did with those Barbie or Spice Girl tattoos as a kid.)

There are 12 patterns to choose from (with 4 glitter ones!!!). The application seems easy: (1) Cut the tattoos to match the shape of your lips; (2) Use plenty of water and firmly press it on from end to end (open your mouth slightly and smile a bit so you have a little flexibility once it’s on.); (4) Pout and enjoy! The colors are very vibrant and pretty.

11 tips to applying Violent Lips

So, they don’t last that long (3 hours or so) and start to peel off a bit when you talk too much (which means it’d be off of me in two seconds since I’m a chatty Cathy…) It also doesn’t really allow for simple things such as eating, drinking or kissing. I wouldn’t recommend these for everyday but definitely as a nighttime thing.

Montclair State Fashion Show x Wyclef Jean

Our 5th annual fashion show at Montclair State University, which was held on May 10, 2011 at Alexander Kasser Theater, was a success. This year, the Fashion Studies “Senior Seminar” course, along with two other design classes put together a SLAMMING show, featuring clothing designed by fellow students, along with great performances by singer Bex and New Jersey Native, Wyclef Jean.

Jean’s wife, Claudinette, who is a student at MSU, was apart of and assisted in the arrangement of the event. Wyclef became involved in the show at the request of his wife who asked him if he could support the academic program at MSU by performing at the fashion show. He grew up in a family where education was an important priority for all of his siblings. This was a way for him give back to the community and we at MSU are FOREVER grateful for that.

The students of Montclair State did a wonderful job of designing the clothing, the stage and the music and the models who participated were great as well. I wish I was able to take some of the clothing home for myself!

Besides the wonderful performances by singer Bex and Wyclef, the presentation of the night was by Fusha, which is Claudinette Jean’s couture line.

As her clothing went down the runway, there were audible gasps in the audience from both men and women. She really knows how to design beautiful gowns and there were certain elements of her pieces that stayed true to her Haitian roots. The clothing was beautifully executed and expressed elegance, style, innovation and class.

The winning design of the night (photo below) was JUST as fab though. I have to say, we have some talent at MSU for sure and it just keeps growing.

I am watching LIVE, at 5:30am, as Kate Middleton prepares to arrive to her wedding!! Yes, I’m awake and YES I’m a NERD.

To tell you the truth, I;’m super excited to see what it is. I mean, I wouldn’t doubt if it was McQueen, especially since his untimely death, you know?

So last night, the crazy lady downstairs came up. Not for nothing, but if you're going to come BANG on someone's door in the middle of the night (10:20pm to be exact), you'd better have a damn good reason.

I watched through the peephole (mainly because I could hear her coming) as she stomped up from the 2nd floor to my apartment and punch my door. That's right people, she didn't bother to even knock - she punched my door.

Now...maybe this behavior worked with the last tenant but I'm new. You have no idea who lives above you or who was there with them. Its unchartered territory and you, wild haired lady with the blue nightgown, are NUTS but brave.

When I opened the door (pepper spray in hand) she leaned in, gave me the stankiest stank eye, with her hair all mussed & her tired eyes set in to her pale, dry face; then she attempted to slam my door shut. I was holding the door on the other side so I was able to close it without making too much noise.

People are EFFING crazy. Whatever happened to common courtesy? Like, "I know you just moved in but can you keep it down, its 10pm and I obviously work on a farm and was completely knocked out when you came home."

The funny thing is, the super came up HOURS earlier to tell me she was already complaining. ...it was 7pm. So, she works on a farm?? Like…WTF?!?!

To top it off, she needed a deep conditioner like NOBODY’S BUSINESS. I'd recommend:

I went to school yesterday, all pumped and ready to join my ARTX class as we discuss plans for our fashion show. I drive to school in a seemingly cool traffic pattern and as I approach the campus, I notice that the roads are much lighter than usual but when I pull up to the parking deck I realize..its SPRING BREAK.
Whata~~FCUKING~~loser! FRIGGIN’ A. Who does that?! Ugh, I need a vacation. Forserious.

I love that I can work somewhere where I can dress cute & it will matter a bit more! Seems like I’m at a more stylish, vibrant office. Some people dress casual but its more on the “cute-simple-chic” side than the “simple-thrown together” side. A little more OOMPH in the way people put clothing together.

Zara, H&M and a great thrift store called Buffalo Exchange in Philadelphia really helped me out! I’ll post about my new office wear SOON!

Couture Fashion Week - NYC

I attended Couture Fashion Week at the Waldorf-Astoria on Sunday. I have to say, some of these designers went above and beyond this year. Some interesting things about the show were: the huge diversity in the models. Everyone knows that Fashion Week is NOTORIOUS for using as many Caucasian models as possible. In the recent years, I have noticed many more Asian, Hispanic and Black models but the Couture Fashion Week presentation reflected nearly every race and look. It was beautiful to see.

The performances were great. I met a few talented young artists, such as Lydia Caesar, a beautiful singer/songwriter with a great energy. She was such a NICE person, my goodness. With that voice and that spirit she's going to go far. I also met Astro, a 10-11 year-old rapper with a mean flow and cute smile!!

Being in the front row was a blast of course thanks to Ms. LaShawna of TimesSquare.com for hooking it up!

Valentine's Day makes me sick

Every year, for some reason Valentine's Day is usually a joke to me. Like a funny-haha type of joke. I usually buy myself flowers and then make fun of all the people I know that are over 13 years of age who STILL wear red/pink today. I feel like I'm back in Catholic schools its "dress-down day." You know, red for V-day, green for St. Pat's, etcetera. Its absurd.

This year, I got myself pink, red & white carnations. I think I like them much more than the red roses I usually get; a little more lively. Corey & Topanga, as I like to call my strange rela/friendship with my ex-boyfriend/good friend, will most likely not be spending any money on each other this year. I think its frivolous. I'd much rather just take myself shopping whilst he tags along, rolling his eyes at every ridiculous costume/outfit that I pick out. ;)

Haha, that reminds me how GREAT our outfits were back then. Biking shorts w/ no bike in sight, the vests and my personal favorite, the overalls. Yes.

I miss the 90s.

Although we weren’t together, Oprah and I had a great birthday! I spent mine in Hoboken this weekend; nothing too crazy. I again thank all the people that actually showed up in this crappy weather!! I love you all, really & truly.

I drank, laughed and really had a blast. It was nice to see my friends & family just let loose & laugh. My travels for the New Year have already begun, starting at Michigan State University. I can say that the trip there & back was interesting to say the least. Its pretty sad that even though there was all this hoop-la about the security being treacherous, I was able to talk my way past 100+ people in line at JFK airport to jump to the front of the security line. I was NEVER picked out of a line or patted down & I believe I have dundundun TWEEZERS in my bag! =0 !! yes….whatever. Security my ass.

I guess the Detroit airport is layover city, so I wasn’t surprised to see some really great, stylishly dressed humans walking around. My personal favorite was cute boy decked out in his David Yurman jewelry, Doc Martens & Tank Girl-inspired haircut.

Holy shit…whats that smell? Wait..is that ^{FRESH AIR}^?!?!

Of COURSE I hit the mall when I arrived! Went to a more urban spot called Jimmy Jazz, where I saw Coogi, Dereon, Nike, Jordan & some shit I have just NEVER heard of. The sneaker selection both at Foot Locker & Jimmy Jazz, were sad & dry though! No people, no sales I guess.

Shell shocked to see that their Victoria’s Secret gear did not say “RUTGERS” on it. No bueno!!

The trip was delightful, to say the least, but I’m happy to be back home where they say “soda” instead of “pop” & where diners, supermarkets & fast food joints are never, EVER closed!!

I watched a 7-minute documentary of Scott Schuman, commonly known as The Sartorialist, taken by Intel of Fashionologie >> "The Sartorialist: A Visual Life" this evening as I sit in apartment at Michigan State University, doing just about nothing, as I enjoy my rare moment away from home.

I always wondered about Mr. Schuman’s journey from a people-watching blogger to one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential people. I think it really has a lot to do with the fact that we can see the world through his eyes, literally. We can see how fashion is interpreted not just in the big cities but all over the world. We are allowed to travel with him, as he goes from place to place meeting people of all walks of life, who express their own individual characteristics through their clothing.

Wow. It is in this moment, this very moment that, that I know I will mostly likely need to move out and get my own place again. I forgot what it feels like to just BE, alone in your own space with your own thoughts. Maybe that’s why I didn’t blog as much in 2010. The first half of the year was bumpy; I was living with another individual and it just didn’t work out as well as we both wanted.

The second half of the year has consisted of me “existing” on my aunt’s sofa sleeper, “Driving Mrs. Daisy” every damned weekend. Of course I’m Morgan Freeman in this scenario.

I cannot believe that I have only written something like 30 blog posts in the year 2010 (compared to the 100 or so for 2009). I have really REALLY been slacking! Between my computer crashing earlier in the year & devoting some much needed time to school, I haven't really had a chance to talk/type/think outloud! It's kind of sad.

This year, I'm giving myself the gift of ME this Christmas. That means, ME first. ME ME ME!

I'm remaining single until I meet someone who is worthy of breathing my air;
I'm devoting all free time to me. That means no more double-booking, no more "trying to make it" somewhere. If I can't come, too bad! I will NOT be a hero! ;
I will continue to remove myself from those who do not have my best interest at heart;
I will follow my dreams!! [ Only YOU can stop you] ;
I will visit the city more. I only live 25 min away but I rarely go, Lame.;
I WILL have FUN! ;
I will visit family more often [after ME time of course];
I will laugh at myself and YOU!

Snow Day!

The ultra traumatic experience of getting trapped in the snow has only prompted me to want to purchase a monster truck (even more so than before). New Jersey was placed under a State of Emergency and I was placed under temporary house arrest for 18 hours! If only it was MY house.

My sister and I figured we would escape in the morning but we woke up to find snow up against the front door.

So we shoveled our way out for the next few hours and then proceeded to go find my poor Benjamin.

He was cold, there was snow on my engine and he needed a jumpstart, poor thing.

As soon as we made it home, we popped a bottle and had a celebratory feast! I swear we felt shipwrecked! I’ve never been so happy to see my own house…ever!

The worst part was that I still hadn’t purchased my winter gear. I just didn’t think it would snow THIS quickly. I think I’m going to get these:

Shop Spotlight: Takeover (Montclair, NJ)

I had the pleasure of kicking it with the guys over at Takeover in Montclair, New Jersey this past weekend. This newly opened sneaker spot already seems to have a following & I can see why. When I first walked in, I was automatically greeted by owner, Suraj (pictured below) & Manager, Xavier.

The store is fairly small but has a great vibe to it. Sneakers line the walls, there’s a pile of kicks in a fireplace as a holiday display & there are little accents such as a chess set (below),

a leather couch & a wooden chest that complete the chill vibe. It was kind of like being
in the walk-in closet of a major sneakerhead.

The merchandise consists of brands such as Jordans, Nike, New Era, Sussy, G-Shock, as well as their own in-store clothing “TKRS”.

They carry mostly men’s gear like shoes, watches, hats, shirts &
some jackets that made me a bit jealous.

This weekend, big things went on! Yesterday the Senate repealed that pesky “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban. I hardly think that being gay or lesbian will stop your ability to fire a gun, be a hero and save our country. We are in a SERIOUS war right now, we need all the help we can get! Some nerve America!

Which brings me to Givenchy model Lea T, an Italian model who was asked by Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci to star in their ADs. Lea stated that she agreed under one condition: being open about her transgender status.

“Maybe a transsexual will open a magazine and think: ‘That’s cool. We can be whatever we want.’ That’s why I did the Givenchy campaign.”

I love it. I don’t know very many REAL girls that can work it like that. Bravo, brave one, bravo!

This morning, I listened to co-workers chat, in a group, about Christmas and kids and gifts. I've always thought the holiday was a bit strange, considering I was raised to believe otherwise, but I have a HUGE family so I am obligated to shop.

So, when I did mention that I have a million gifts to purchase this year I got that annoying blank stare. You know the one where someone looks at you as if you're speaking in Cantonese or something?

I call it the "Go-sit-down-unless-we're-talking-about-ME-because-otherwise-I'm-not-capable-of-listening" Stare.

I'm not sure if I will be able to continue having tolerance for people who find a reason to whine

about everything when they really have NOTHING to whine about!!!!!!

I feel like I have the same conversations EVERY day! My office is like groundhog day. I know who will be wearing which outfit on which day (depending on the weather and location of the moon or whatever). Its like clockwork. I find myself doing it too sometimes; wearing the same sweater/tank combo or only wearing certain tops with certain trousers. FUDDY-DUDDY!!

I'm beginning to scare myself. So what does that mean? It means it was time for a little retail therapy, naturally.

I have been REALLY good the past 3-4 months. Saving $ left & right! But damnit, last night I walked into that mall and…it’s holiday season! SO MANY SALES!! I was like a recovering junkie having a relapse.

3 hours later, I skipped my happy ass out of the mall, hands/arms full of bags. You know that obnoxious human that knocks their bags into you on the escalator? That was me…sorry.

I'm in search of holiday gifts for a few loved ones. NOTICE I said a few. With 8 brothers & sisters, 15 nieces & nephews & a Godson, it'd be easier to just rent 8 reindeer & a sleigh this year. Growing family, shrinking wallet.

Lately, my skin has been OUT OF CONTROL. I forgot that when I was in high school & too cheap to spend my shoe collection money on anything else, I would DIY everything. My favorite was a homemade brown sugar scrub that made me want to rub on my own skin like Buffalo Bill. MMMM. RUBBBB ITTTT.

I can’t remember the exact recipe but I found one online that I liked:

50 percent white cane sugar
50 percent vegetable glycerin to moisten the sugar (you can get a small bottle at Whole Foods for $4-5 bucks. It warms as you rub it in. Ohhhh yeahhh.)
Small amounts of aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil, vitamin C crystals, or anything healing that dissolves in water
1 or 2 drops of essential oil if desired (the recipe recommends combining orange and lavender)

Combine the ingredients in a bowl. Scoop some of the scrub onto your hand and massage gently onto your skin for a minute (the scrub will actually tighten onto your skin like a masque). Leave on for 3 to 4 minutes before rinsing.

If you do it every few days, pretty much guaranteed sexy, glowy skin that tastes like sugar! (The glycerin is sweet as hell).

Operation-Fetus-Skin a go go!! I’m gonna look 19 1/2 again!!

Finally something to look forward to right before Christmas – Lanvin for H&M!

I received an article in class last week about the collection.

It may be my favorite featured collection yet. I have been a fan of H&M for a while simply because I feel like their marketing lacks. The Lanvin ADs were the best H&M ADs I have seen in a LONG time. They seem to have paid off and created a good buzz for the company’s newest collaboration with designer Lanvin.

It is SO cold on campus around this time of year. Just thinking about walking to class from my car gives me the shivers. The wind whips in from the open soccer field nearby and whooshes its way in between the buildings to attempt at blowing you over.

There you are, trying to walk as straight as possible in your work heels whilst your cheeks are being pushed in all different directions. My face gets so whipped back that I resemble Joan Rivers by the time I head into the building!!

CONFESSION: I'm allergic to cashmere. I have known this fact for nearly a year now & have been trying to ignore it. I refuse to go to the doctor for an allergy test because the truth may fling me into cardiac arrest.

I only own ONE cashmere, boatneck argyle sweater that I wear very rarely & this is what happens *itccch*? I guess this is Mother Nature telling me to throw away/donate this sweater. Ugh.

FINE! I've never done anything to deserve this. Why meeee? Of ALL fabrics in the universe why cashmere? Why not wool? or polyester? or even cotton! I would rather be allergic to the most common used fiber then soft, delicious cashmere.

I will be in mourning for next few seasons over this...*sniffle*

Women all over are trying out this Brazilian Keratin treatment business. The claim: a new way to smooth out your hair, semi-permanently without being exposed to harsh chemicals such as a known carcinogen, formaldehyde.

FORMALDEHYDE?!?! Yeah, girl that stuff they rub dead bodies down with before they roll them into the casket! MMHMM! It is already a well known product in relaxers among the African-American community (along with a bunch of other deadly things but I don’t have hours in the day to talk about that foolishness!)

At $300-$550, it does actually work (my own sister tried and said it worked out fairly well) BUT with customers and stylists reporting itchy, burning eyes, nose bleeds, difficulty breathing it was taken by a local health administration in Oregon for testing. The findings?

Significant levels or formaldehyde. 12% to be exact.

Some New York City salons seem to be pulling the product for now, while others seem to be taking huge precautions such as installing thousand dollar ventilation systems and even having clients sign release forms!

I’m not saying not to use it but just know what you are putting on your scalp before you use it!

I hate that Brad has left Rachel Z to pursue his own business ventures. Its nice to head that they’re still BFFs though. supposedly.

All the rumors about her being pregnant are a bit hard to believe. As much as I love RZ, I don’t think that she wants to gain that “baby weight".” She’s obviously underweight (even thought she constantly denies it) and it could just be because of all the running around she does or a possible eating disorder allegedly. Either way, I don’t think that she could wrap her head around the idea of putting on 20 or 30 pounds. She would look SO GOOD by the way if she did.

I hope her bang-flipping husband Rodger with a ‘D’ doesn’t leave her for a woman who wouldn’t mind eating some bread once in a while. Please just have the damned kid Rachel! It would come out wearing big sunglasses and have ridiculously perfect bangs and say things like “Mommy, bananas!!”

Ack! Its Fashion Week already in New York and of course it always falls right in the beginning of the semester. I promise myself I would go this year, at least for a walk around the city so we'll try this Friday (alone if I have to damnit!). Lets go through some favs, shall we?

Before I say this, I have to say I really enjoy Alexander Wang's work. Last season, his RTW collection was beautiful and uncomplicated but somehow detailed at the same time. It took a lot of thought to make the collection look as easy as it appeared. This year, for some reason, it does not translate as well for me. His RTW Spring 2011 begins in all white, flowy, broken dresses and continues with splashes of yellows, oranges & greens. Although it is a beautiful collection, his Resort 2011 really did it for me. It has more structure and really says "Alexander Wang."

Its very reminiscent of last season's Fall 2010 RTW collection. I like the continuation of the collection. Easy, 90's, cool. Its comfortable & casual with the folds and zipper details. I feel like he achieved what he wanted. AHHH *channeling Molly*

I also loved the Carolina Herrera Resort 2011 Collection as well! I'm usually not one to even pay attention to the resort wear because the RTWs are so good but this year I think everyone just wants to hold on to the warmth as long as possible, even if it means just dressing like it.

This collection reminds me of my grandmother. Its full of your usual Carolina Herrera flair. Its soft and beautiful! I need that grey pant suit in my closet yesterday. That is a strut worthy outfit and that yellow trench..ohhhh. I once watched an interview with Mrs. Herrera and she claimed that she could not even sew when she started. That just proves that as long as you have a vision and know how to properly execute what you want your collection to look like, you're golden. I love Mama Herrera. She's just girly and feminine all day longgg.

According to Fox News both Jacobson and Zoe hit up a New York hotspot the and apparently Zoe wasn’t prepared to share the same space as her former prodigy.

I'm sure this isn't the last time we'll be hearing about these two. At least she went and found herself another job. It's what I always say "Don't complain and then do nothing. It's either one or the other."

Ok so I haven't been here in a couple of days..(I'm starting to notice a pattern of procrastination!! tsk tsk)

First off, this weekend was WONDERFUL. I had the privilege of babysitting my Dog-phew, CoCo. SO adorable and such a good babydog! I was sad to see him go. He was VERY fashion forward.

The weather was great! I did get to sneak off to the beach with my steezzzz. I know I know, people will be beastttting on me later when they find out I went without them but I will go again. It was a last minute thing plus I just wanted to enjoy my weekend/vacation from the office with him. We have a lot of catching up to do!

RIP Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen, a man who was considered one of Britain's most successful fashion designers, was found dead at 10am this morning after committing suicide at his home in London. He was only 40 years old. This comes days after the death of McQueen’s mother, who died on February 2, and it was reported that he had told his followers on Twitter that he had found it hard to come to terms with her death.

He also lost friend/mentor Isabella Blow after took her own life 3 years ago. His death comes just days before London Fashion Week (opening on February 19) and as final preparations were being made to unveil a Alexander McQueen in Paris for the spring season.

Let us remember his innovative art and work in the industry and hope that his soul is finally at peace.

Model Jourdan Dunn was recently featured on Teen Vogue with fellow colleague Chanel Iman. What you couldn’t see is that 19-year-old Jourdan is pregnant and due in December of this year. Why the uproar? I have no idea. I watched as Jamie Lynn Spears sold her pregnancy story to every magazine that would buy an interview off of her. I also watched the entire 1st and 2nd season of “Secret Life of an American Teenager” and MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” which both seemed to normalize teen pregnancies. So what is the big deal here? She is a teen, but she is also over the age of 18 and she makes her own money. Why can’t she keep her child?

As I sit here watching the Rachel Zoe Project, I’m internally falling apart. She’s selling some of her most prized jewelry pieces and having the money be donated to the Cancer Association. This is going to sound strange but, I’m jealous. She gets to use her job, something that she loves, to give back to the community. I can only hope to reach that type of success. I mean, I could cry right now as I sit in my little studio apartment with my kitten (appropriately named Chanel), staring at my walls which are adorned with snapshots of Paris. SOMEDAY WE WILL BE TOGETHER PARIS! Je t’aime.

Anyways, can you BELIEVE I barely watched or wrote about New York Fashion Week? And I live 20 minutes away! I know Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs SHUT IT DOWN. I’ve just been exhausting myself with school and not one, but two jobs – I mean I can’t even see straight. I CAN DO IT! GO ME!

My new weekend job is at a FAB consignment boutique. Just wait till I show you some of the beautiful pieces I’m going to purchase there. Prada anyone? Maybe a little YSL? YES MA’AM. Its INSANE. I love my new job.

MB Fashion Week – Color on the Runway

Last year, I was very disappointed with the designers of MB Fashion Week. The all African-American issue of Vogue had just been released in the UK and we were on our way to having out first US Black president. But for some reason, I didn’t see very many black girls on the runway (besides the usual beauties Chanel Iman and Jordan Dunn). It was a tad bit upsetting.

Something shifted. This year, I saw more black faces, beautiful black faces! I’m all giddy inside. FINALLY. Jeez.

Alexander Wang brought it at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I mean he gave it all up! Great structures, cut-outs, mixing of fabrics (i.e. linens and leathers) and beautifully androgynous. He’s still so new to the fashion world, he always leaves me wanting more. Loves.

I stopped by Dots (www.Dots.com) today on my day off. I promise I didn't spend that much you guys. A cute white fedora ($10) and a bird necklace ($5) .

Total 15 dollars! What a whurlwind! (sp?) LOL. Corny. But fret you not, for I shall be back to dressing like an old bee-otch first thing Monday morning. Gotta blend in!

WHOO! Meanwhile, between school, work, loans, car, rent and trying to be someone’s steeze, I’m a little worn out. I need a spa day girls.

As much as I love to rave about the latest Louboutins or Jimmy Choos, when it comes down to it I am a student and I am permanently broke! Hearing that Mr. Siriano, former Project Runway winner, is making his stylish ways available to us peasants is EXCITING. Like I don’t have enough bloody shoes. I’m the lady who LIVES in her shoes.

The line drops on September 8th. It features Egyptian-inspired footwear and bags in deep browns, chocolates, golds and aquas. At $25 to $45, I will buy the WHOLE DAMNED LINE. Damn you Christian, you entrepreneur you.
